Chunk into threes

Working memory holds about four items. Group tiles into triads: "top-left, center, right-edge" is one chunk, not three positions.

Trace the path

Imagine a line connecting each tile in order. You are no longer remembering positions — you are remembering a single shape.

Use verbal anchors sparingly

Naming positions out loud helps up to about level 12, then it slows you down. Switch to pure spatial recall for the higher levels.
